3 Reasons to Keep Old Family Photos

Published

on

The decision of whether or not to hang onto family keepsakes is often an emotional one. We can be torn between the need to declutter and the guilt of getting rid of memories. And in the case of family photos, this decision is even harder. After all, they are things you can never replace once they’re gone. For that reason and many more, most people decide to keep them and just find creative ways to store them. But in case you’re still on the fence, here are just a few good reasons not to throw them away.

Old family photos preserve history

The first photograph was taken in 1826 or 1827 by a man in France. It was created using a method he was experimenting with, called heliography. At this point and for many years after, all photos were produced on tin plates. But what’s amazing to realize is that before this, the only images of our ancestors would be pictures people drew. This was a rare skill usually reserved for people of royalty and wealth.

While your family photos might not date back that far, the history of the photograph is still pretty valuable. Without them, we wouldn’t have the clear view of events, trends, and history we do today. Old photos can give us a glimpse into other eras and help us discover what people wore, drove, and ate. But aside from that, these pictures tell your history, which is something that can be passed down to the next generations.

There are many convenient ways to store old photos

Lack of storage space is why many people choose to dispose of keepsakes, clutter, and old photos. But with today’s technology, there’s no need to worry about that. With the development of cloud photo storage, you can easily upload thousands of images to access any time and from anywhere you want. This also makes it easy to share your photos with family members through email or other methods. You can also print any out that you wish by uploading them to a local or mail-in photo lab.

But if you’d rather not destroy the originals, you can also purchase organizers for your prints. Many photo supply stores sell storage systems, such as sectioned boxes, acid-free albums, or plastic files where you can neatly stack and sort the prints for compact storage in small spaces. Of course, even if you do choose to keep the physical copies, it’s still a good idea to scan them into a cloud-based system for back up.

Old photos make great artwork

If you have any open spaces you’d like to decorate, old family photos are a great solution. You can have them professionally enlarged and framed, or you can have them made into canvas prints. Canvas prints are perfect for spots over the fireplace or large walls that you can’t quite seem to fill, but they’re also much cheaper than framed and matted prints or expensive artwork you might purchase from a local vendor. The statement they make is much more personal and elegant than any piece of art you can buy.

If you’re fortunate enough to still have a piece of your family’s history preserved through old photos, don’t take it for granted. Some people never have the chance to see these types of images because their photos were lost or destroyed. Take the time to preserve these memories to pass down to your children. They’re an important part of your past and your family should be able to cherish for generations to come.

on

Cars are the method of transport more frequently used within our families. From long travels to short trips to take our kids to school, using a car just seems to be the most convenient method. Because of that, in order to ensure our family safety, it is important that we make sure that all the parts of our car are up to the task.

Car safety systems

Over the last years, car manufactures have been aware of how important it is to try and guarantee the safety of the passengers in the car. Improvements have been added to our cars in order to improve their road safety and save the lives of the driver and the passengers. Car safety systems can be divided into active and passive security. It is strongly advised to check of these safety systems are working properly and to shop for high-quality car parts online in case they ever happened to be damaged.

Active Safety System

It involves all the elements that help making the vehicle more steady and efficient while on the move, and helps trying to avoid any possible accident as much as possible. It revolves around the following components:

  • The brake system: It is a fundamental part for the security of the driver. Current brake systems are equipped with independent circuits that allow the driver to stop the car safely in case that any of the brakes is damaged. The best brakes are the ones that have Antiblockiersystem (ABS) integrated. ABS reduces the braking distance, making it possible for the driver to avoid obstacles on the road.
  • The suspension system: it keeps the vehicle steady, absorbing the impact of the bumps in the road. The establishing bars connect the tires and control the inclination of our car when we drive a curve, which helps us to avoid driving off of the road.
  • The steering system: it guarantees the correct manoeuvre of the car. When traveling at high speed, modern cars’ steering systems harden themselves in order to prevent any possible accidents.
  • The wheel system: wheels and their pattern need to have the proper traction to ensure a safe driving in any weather condition. It needs to be in perfect conditions to ensure our safety.
  • The light system: it is very important to have potent light bulbs that will ensure we have proper vision of the road, as well as allow other vehicles to see us and avoid any dangerous collisions.
  • Stability control systems: these systems prevent the car from rolling if we lose control during an accident.

Passive Safety Systems

When accidents can not be avoided, passive safety systems help reducing the damage the passengers and driver can suffer. The most important passive safety systems are:

  • Seat belts: these belts help preventing that the passengers from flying off in the case of an accident. They can be adapted for kids and pets in order to prevent any possible injury. Seat belts prevent more than 12.000 deaths per year and reduce up to the 50% the number of deaths on the road.
  • Airbag systems: airbags are bags that inflate in a fraction of a second when the car hits an obstacle at high speed. Its purpose is to prevent the passenger from hitting any part of the car during the collision. Airbags save the lives of 1.200 people per year.
  • The car’s chassis and bodywork: both absorb the impact in case of an accident. If the accident happened to be frontal, they relocate the motor engine so it does not go into the cabin.
  • The windshields: the windshield is made with a special material designed to not splinter towards the passengers in the case of an accident. Side windows are made of a weaker material so they can be broken in case we need an alternative exist aside from the doors.
  • The headrest: it protects the passenger from suffering cervical whiplash in case of a collision.

The Biggest Postpartum Depression Myths

Published

on

Postpartum depression can be a pretty serious problem. The depression that often follows a mother who gives birth can be debilitating, and can interfere with the quality of their life – and their ability to be a good parent.

There are a number of warning signs that can let you know postpartum depression is on the way, but not everyone manages to catch the problem before it’s too late.

These issues can create more problems if the postpartum depression isn’t dealt with – but it’s important to make sure that it’s dealt with properly. Postpartum depression is a fairly common problem, and as such, it’s discussed quite often – but unfortunately, that also means that a number of myths and rumors have sprung up regarding postpartum depression.

If you want to know how to most effectively prepare for and manage postpartum depression, then you need to know about how it actually works. You need to separate the facts from fiction. In this article, we’re going to talk about some of the biggest postpartum depression myths.

Biggest Postpartum Depression Myths

Just because you’ve heard something about postpartum depression doesn’t mean that it’s true. Though there are others, these are some of the most common, debunked myths associated with postpartum depression:

It Happens Immediately

Many people assume that postpartum depression happens immediately after childbirth, but this certainly isn’t the case. Postpartum depression can happen right after childbirth, certainly, btu it’s just as likely to happen several months afterwards.

It’s the Same as the Baby Blues

This simply isn’t the case. The baby blues is a condition that many moms experience shortly after giving birth – a feeling of sadness or depression related to the birth. This is fairly normal, but most moms are able to get over this within a few days. If it persists for weeks months, then you’re probably dealing with postpartum depression.

Mothers with Postpartum Depression Hurt Their Children

Another rumor. The news and media sometimes portrays stories about mothers who hurt their children and blame it on postpartum depression, but the reality here is that these parents are likely struggling with a condition much more serious than simple postpartum depression.

Another reason that people might think this is because some mothers with postpartum depression experience scary thoughts about harming their children. This is actually a mental health issue related to OCD that causes intrusive thoughts – thoughts that are generally horrific and unpleasant, but really indicate the exact opposite of what you’d want to do to your child.

Postpartum Depression Discriminates

Postpartum depression can strike anyone, even women who are otherwise completely mentally stable. It has been known to affect a number of celebrities and well-off women, such as Brooke Shields, who would otherwise not be suspected to be struggling with depressive issues.

Postpartum depression can strike women of any age, ethnicity, and life’s history. Heck, even men can experience symptoms similar to postpartum depression after their partner gives birth.

Conclusion & Advice

As you can see, postpartum depression is not as serious or crazy as some of the myths and rumors would suggest. However, this doesn’t mean that it’s any less of a problem for the women who have it. It should still be acknowledged as a serious problem and treated accordingly.

One of the first things that you should do if you’re struggling with postpartum depression is to seek help from a counselor or therapist. They will help you work through some of the difficult parts of the problem.

Important Qualities to Teach Your Child

Published

on

According to a 2018 study, approximately 40% of first-time parents recalled feeling indifference when holding their baby for the first time. So many new mothers struggle when they raise their children but they are not alone. This same study shows that 25% of second-time mothers also felt the same way when holding their baby for the first time.

Since children are so impressionable, it is important to frequently take a step back and recognize the good and the bad things that you may be teaching your child. There are many qualities that mothers teach their children without even thinking about it. This can be both a negative and a positive thing. Mothers teach their children how to walk, how to eat, how to use the potty, how to talk and, most importantly, how to love. If you are teaching your child by leading by example in these areas, then it can be a positive thing.

However, if you find yourself struggling in any of these areas, as most mothers do, you may end up teaching your child to develop qualities that are not in their best interest. Examples of this may be teaching your child to be prideful, impatient, unkind, disrespectful to authority, and much more. In this article, we will focus on how to encourage good behavior in our impressionable children.

Teach your child to seek help when it is needed.

From time to time, everyone needs help in their life. This is true whether it is with schooling, mending broken relationships, treating addictions (with alcohol detox treatment), or simply with parenting. Teaching your child that it is okay to ask for help when they are confused or don’t know how to do something is a good thing.

You can encourage this behavior by telling them how proud you are of them for asking questions. You can celebrate when they ask questions and learn from their past mistakes and you can model that same behavior in your own life. When you need help with something, seek help and do not be ashamed of it because your children will notice and follow after your example.

Teach your child to be kind.

This can be one of the hardest things for a parent to do because to teach this quality, you have to model this quality in every aspect of your life. You must model how important it is to be kind to others in public and in private. It may be easiest to teach your child how to be a good friend and then teach them to treat everyone in the same way that they would treat their best friends. Teach them what bullying is and encourage them to help those who are being bullied instead of participating in the bullying themselves.

Teach your child to be patient.

This is another hard one to accomplish. Life gets stressful and it is easy to get frustrated. However, when you show patience towards your child they will show patience to others. For example, if they need help for the 50th time in an area you have already explained, keep helping them. Find creative ways to help them understand how to do it. If the original way that you explained it does not help, find someone else to help you. Everyone learns differently but there are many tools to help you figure out how to teach your child according to their unique learning style.

Finally, learn to forgive yourself when you make mistakes. If you are reading this article and feel like you are a horrible mother, remember that you are not alone and that it is okay to make mistakes. If you forgive yourself and learn from your mistakes, you will become a better mother every day.
